The headline number is the hard-dollar paper bill you stop paying. The "capacity value" is separate on purpose: freed-up staff minutes only become real cash if hours, overtime or outsourced work actually go down β so we don't add it to the headline. Set handling time to 0 to ignore it.
Commercial premises: read this before the payback number persuades you. The 2024 International Plumbing Code requires a bidetβs water supply to be protected against backflow by an air gap or an appropriate backflow preventer. The attachment costed on this page documents no backflow protection at all, and we could not find its maker in an official listing directory β only a partial list of test sections. A homeowner can weigh that themselves. A restaurant, hotel or office is inspected, and a facilities manager who installs twenty of these on the strength of a payback calculation is the person who gets asked for the listing. Get a licensed plumber to confirm what your supply already provides, and expect that a listed product with an integral vacuum breaker may be the specifiable option even though it costs more. The upkeep nobody costs in
Our care guidance says nozzle hygiene matters more, not less, when someone is vulnerable. It matters for the same reason here β and this page said nothing about it until now. That was our omission, and this section is the correction.
A home bidet serves one household. A shared washroom serves strangers, back to back. That single difference drives most of what follows, and it is why the cheapest unit is not automatically the right one here.
The nozzle needs a schedule, not goodwill. Every unit above has a cleaning routine in its manual; almost nobody reads it. We put the minutes in the calculator and subtract them from the saving, because a saving that ignores the labour to sustain it is not a saving.
Nozzle cleaning has a schedule, and a known limit. It reduces contamination on the nozzle. Whether it reaches the sprayed water is contested between a 2019 hospital survey and a 2022 campus study β we are resolving it and will say so either way.
Self-rinsing and retractable nozzles: an engineering argument, not a proven one. The reasoning is sound β a nozzle that retracts behind a shield and rinses itself spends less time exposed, and shared use is where that should matter most. But we went looking for the evidence and have to report what we found: there is no standard for self-cleaning performance and no independent test of it, so a manufacturer's "self-cleaning" claim is unverified by anyone but the manufacturer. What has been measured, in hospitals, is that cleaning the nozzle more often reduces contamination on its surface. So specify the feature if you like the reasoning, but budget for the cleaning schedule either way β and if your washroom is single-occupancy staff use, skip it and save the money.
If you are choosing between a tank and an on-demand heater, choose on demand. Seats that hold warm water in a reservoir measure more bacteria in the sprayed water than seats that heat on the fly, and the residual chlorine that protects mains water largely disappears while it sits. That is the one design difference with actual measurements behind it β though those measurements come from a single industry-funded research group, and none of them were taken in a normal building rather than a hospital or campus.
The failure that costs real money is a leak, not a breakdown. A dripping T-connector in a guest bathroom at two in the morning is a room out of service, a refund, and a review. We are not going to put a number on that, because any number we invented would be fiction. We will say what reduces it: a decent T-valve and braided hose rather than the packaged plastic one, an accessible shut-off, and a plumber for the first install even if the box says fifteen minutes.
Hard water is the quiet killer. Scale takes out spray nozzles and heating elements faster than use does. Because upkeep is now subtracted, some honest answers on this page come out as don't do this β many units, high turnover, hard water, nobody to clean them. We left that outcome in on purpose. It is the one a calculator built to sell you something would have quietly removed.

Scope matches on purpose. Savings are counted only for the toilets you say you'll upgrade β never for the whole building. That keeps the saving and the ~$40-per-toilet investment on the same footing.
The number that matters most is the real annual roll count in exactly those restrooms. "Rolls per toilet per week" is only a rough placeholder β a busy public restroom burns through far more than a quiet office one. Enter your invoice or stock figure and ignore our guess.

Capacity value is separate and optional. Handling time (default 1 min/roll, adjustable to 0) valued at your wage. Payback is shown from the hard-dollar paper saving only. If it comes out under a month from our defaults, we flag it β a real sub-month payback needs your actual roll counts, not our placeholder.

We do not claim a bidet produces bookings β there is no evidence for that, and we are not going to invent it. We hand you the bar; you know your guests.
On accessibility, plainly: a bidet seat does not make a bathroom accessible. Without grab rails, a step-free approach and an appropriate seat height it is a comfort improvement, nothing more. Describing a room as accessible on the strength of a bidet seat invites a complaint you will deserve.
For older guests we point away from the ambient-water attachment on the same grounds as our care guidance: reduced sensation makes temperature judgement unreliable, so warm water set low is the safer configuration.
